Functionally beautiful quilts

The images of the quilts on this page are the hand-stitched patchwork quilts created for me by my Mom's Mom - My Nana Ruth aka Ruth Winnifred (Eisan) Stevens...   The first one I received was the yellow background quilt with the images of the different fairy tale stories...  This is the quilt my Nana created for me to welcome me to the family in celebration of my birth... I may be wrong, but I think Nana Ruth created quilts for all of her Grandchildren (Greats, & Great-Greats included)...  Although the quilt is tattered & worn like me, ALL of my family members (and some special friends too) have benefited from the sunshine of this quilt which is particularly soft, welcoming & warm...

Aside from being born, the other occasion for which my Nana Ruth always presented quilts were for weddings.  I was in school a long time before getting married and I think my Grandmother feared I would stay in school my whole life and never get married or have kids in my life SO she made an exception to her usual quilt presentation criteria for me (I seem to challenge, break rules and create new ones wherever I go...just ask anyone who has ever played cards with me...) and my Sunflower Quilt as I call it was presented to me by my Nana Ruth after I successfully defended my Master's Thesis "The Developmental Experience of Cancer" and received an Interdisciplinary Master's Degree from Laurentian University, in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada (at the time, the only institution I could find offering an Interdisciplinary Masters' Degree in Human Development offered collaboratively amongst the disciplines of Psychology, Sociology and Kinesiology (Human Movement))...

Thank you Nana Ruth for creating these quilts "Especially for me" - I continue to use them, enjoy them and share them with love and gentle care, just like you taught us all to do so... S8)
